The curricular organisation of Kindergarten in the Brazilian Curriculum Framework is structured in five experience fields, within which the learning and development objectives are defined. The experience fields constitute a curricular arrangement that welcomes the concrete situations and experiences of the children’s daily lives and their knowledge, intertwining them with the knowledge that is part of the cultural heritage. The definition and denomination of the experience fields are related to the fundamental knowledge and the knowledge to be provided to children.
Elementary School is one of the pillars for the other stages of Basic Education. During this period, the child’s development is expanded academically, personally and socially. The child learns to read and to write, and mathematical and scientific principles, as well as the notion of space and time, are developed, in addition to the development of other languages, such as aesthetic, musical, technological, body, and verbal language, including German and English.
Middle School continues the organic and progressive set of essential learning experienced by students. This is where the work progression aimed at developing general skills in our young people, including abstraction and cognitive flexibility, begins. This process, combined with the deepening of the work done with the socioemotional skills of self-knowledge, self-care, an empathetic look at diversity, flexibility and resilience, guided by the development of a systemic view, integrates the content worked on in this stage of Basic Education.
High School is the final stage of Basic Education when our students improve and deepen their knowledge and start to outline their future paths by choosing the area of knowledge that is most attractive to them. Besides the General Basic Education, which is the same for all our students, High School offers elective learning advancement programmes and the opportunity to choose between English or German as the primary learning focus.

By choosing an Education Advancement Pathway, the students can prepare a theme project that will lead them to further studies and research in line with global perspectives, employing technological resources. In each project, the students will have, in addition to their teachers’ support, that of companies or universities offering mentoring programmes to help them develop their ideas innovatively. The Exhibition of Entrepreneurial Projects marks the project’s completion with presentations in different languages, covering research and innovation proposals and economically, socially, and environmentally relevant projects.

Choosing between English or German as the primary learning focus allows the students to tailor their education according to their preferences, goals and personal interests, making them ready for their academic and professional lives in a world that grows more interconnected and globalised by the day.

Olympiads

We effectively consolidated the participation of students of all Levels in official Olympiads in the various areas of knowledge. School Olympiads encourage the development of specific talents and skills, self-improvement, as well as a focus on studying and problem-solving.

Global Videoconferences and Core Classes

This innovative initiative by Colégio Visconde de Porto Seguro promotes meetings between students, renowned specialists and youngsters from Brazil and other parts of the world. In these meetings, children learn through real-life communication scenarios, talk to each other, debate and establish connections with different contexts, and develop a sense of global citizenship, immensely stimulating communication in other languages, including English and German.

School Trips Programme

Through this interdisciplinary approach offered from Elementary School on, the students participate in immersions that bring them close to real-life contexts, allowing for more meaningful learning processes. Based on well-thought-out plans and investigation tasks, all the trips are organised by companies in the tourism industry and escorted by ambulance and security staff.

Entrance Exams Season

Colégio Visconde de Porto Seguro offers many opportunities for students to make their dreams come true and choose their academic and career paths. After completing the 3rd year of High School, Porto students are admitted every year to the most renowned higher education institutions in Brazil and abroad.

Studienkolleg

Porto offers a Studienkolleg preparatory course for Bilingual Curriculum 3rd year students. Usually, 12 months after completing it and passing their exam, students are admitted to one of Studienkolleg’s universities in Germany. Preparatory classes are held every week and are free. To attend Studienkolleg, one has to:

• Have completed High School.

• Be DSD II certified (level B2).

• Successfully pass the entrance exam for the course itself, in German and Maths.

Universities Around the World

For students who wish to obtain the best opportunities in Higher Education abroad, Porto offers, from Middle School onwards, guidance, support and monitoring for university admission processes in countries such as the United States, Canada, Spain, Portugal, United Kingdom, Netherlands and other countries the student may consider.
