Porto Seguro

Porto is open to the world

Colégio Visconde de Porto Seguro, which already offers the German International Curriculum at the Morumbi and Valinhos campuses, has officially become an International Baccalaureate® (IB) World School for the Diploma Programme (DP) at the Panamby Campus.

This programme will enable students entering High School to obtain a highly recognised and valued international certification that opens doors to leading universities around the world. The IB World Schools share a common philosophy, aligned with Porto’s values—the commitment to a challenging and exceptional international education. Beyond academic excellence, the programme also fosters critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and personal growth, equipping students with the skills and mindset to thrive in an ever-changing world.

* Only schools authorised by the IB can offer its academic programmes.

Overview of the Diploma Programme

Suggestions: The Diploma Programme (DP) of the International Baccalaureate® (IB) is a two-year pre-university course designed for students aged 16 to 19. With a balanced and challenging curriculum, the DP combines a mandatory core with six subject groups, providing a broad and interdisciplinary education.

Recognised by universities worldwide, the IB DP provides excellent preparation for higher education. Beyond academics, it fosters personal growth by promoting self-management, autonomy, and the freedom to select subjects and levels according to each student’s interests and strengths, while also nurturing international-mindedness, reflective thinking, and an openness to different perspectives.
Approaches to Learning

The approaches to learning reflect the IB’s firm belief that students’ education is highly influenced not only by what they learn, but also by how they learn.

The programme develops five main competences:
Research skills
Reasoning skills
Social skills and capabilities
Self-management skills
Communication skills
Diploma Curriculum Programme

Each student takes three High Level (HL) subjects, with a minimum of 240 teaching hours per subject, and three Standard Level (SL) subjects, with a minimum of 150 hours each. All subjects are academically demanding, but HL subjects offer greater depth of knowledge, understanding and development of skills.

In addition to the six subject groups, students engage with the core components of the IB DP:
  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
  • Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)
  • Extended Essay (EE)
These components broaden the academic experience and promote personal growth beyond the classroom.

During the first semester of 10th grade and the final semester of 12th grade, students focus on strengthening the skills and competencies required by the Brazilian National Curriculum (BNCC), ensuring alignment and resulting in dual certification.
