BALLET
The classes include exercises that help develop balance, stretching, rhythm, and motor coordination, focusing on the classical technique of the National Ballet School of Cuba (ENBC).
FIGURE SKATING
The Figure Skating course has arrived at Porto as yet another sporting option for students! The course will cover the fundamentals of the sport, the basic elements of progression and safety and the main steps for choreographic development and presentation. Required safety equipment: skates, helmet, and knee and elbow pads.
CHEERLEADING
Recognised by the International Olympic Committee, cheerleading is a sport that develops teamwork and pushes individual and collective boundaries. The classes are taught with joy and creativity and work on performances with dances, jumps and singing, to cheer up the audience at sporting events.
GERMAN FOLK DANCES
In this course, students come into contact with German culture through dance, cultivate respect for individual and cultural differences, and practice cooperation, companionship and friendship. In a relaxed atmosphere, students have fun to the rhythm of music, dance hand in hand and play folk games. Dance provides knowledge of the body and develops the sense of rhythm, motor coordination and spatial orientation.
FOOTBALL
The course aims to provide age-appropriate technical and tactical learning of the sport, sparking pleasure in acquiring specific skills of the sport. During classes, teamwork and respect for diversity are also encouraged.
ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS
In classes, students will work on the basic gymnastic and acrobatic elements of artistic gymnastics on different male and female categories of devices, providing physical conditioning appropriate to the sport and the age group covered. During the course, combinations of medium-difficulty gymnastic and acrobatic elements are introduced on different equipment to improve the students’ technique when performing the exercises and their physical capabilities, such as strength and flexibility.
TRAMPOLINE GYMNASTICS
The course provides students with experience and improvement in acrobatic jumps using the mini-tramp, acrobatic trampoline and tumbling. The classes aim to develop body awareness and muscle tone and work on skills such as balance, strength and coordination.
JUDO
The course aims to introduce students to oriental sports practices, emphasising the importance of moral and ethical values such as respect, dignity, solidarity, compassion, self-esteem and morality. These values are cultivated in a sporting environment that aims to enrich the holistic development of students.
JIU-JITSU
The Jiu-Jitsu course aims to promote the physical, mental, and social development of students, using the fundamentals of this martial art as an educational tool. Based on Eastern values such as respect, discipline, self-control and perseverance, the classes encourage the development of an ethical and cooperative mindset. The course also covers self-defence techniques, emphasising the importance of non-violence and resolving conflicts safely and responsibly. Through physical activities, games, and group dynamics, students develop motor skills, self-esteem, and confidence, while learning to value teamwork and personal integrity.
NBA BASKETBALL SCHOOL
Classes are taught by teachers trained in the NBA Basketball School programme and include strategies and exercises from this programme’s world-famous methodology. The course helps to develop confidence, communication, caring, respect, flexibility, enthusiasm, altruism and balance.
TENNIS – BEGINNER
The course aims to teach the specific motor skills of the sport in a fun and enjoyable way. Students learn all the strokes of the sport, such as forehand, backhand, volley, smash and serve. Porto will provide rackets and balls.
CHESS
Chess stimulates the development of concentration, memory, reflection, problem-solving, judgement and decision-making. Computer software and workbooks are used to aid the learning process.
PICKLEBALL
Pickleball is a racket sport that can be played with two or four people. The sport has gained a large number of practitioners in the United States and has recently arrived in Brazil. It develops motor coordination, promotes excellent aerobic endurance and muscle strengthening, and helps to increase flexibility, agility and body balance.
SKATEBOARDING
In 2026, Porto will offer another Olympic sport in its extra courses! Skateboarding! The course introduces participants to the fundamentals of the sport through activities that are both enjoyable and safe. It covers the basics of balance, motor coordination, posture and skateboard control, as well as the proper use of safety equipment.
* Students should only bring their skateboards on class days. Mandatory safety equipment: helmet, elbow pads, and knee pads.
VOLLEYBALL
The course aims to provide students with technical and tactical improvement in the sport so that they derive a sense of fulfilment from acquiring specific skills. During classes, teamwork and respect for diversity are also encouraged.
FREE SPORTS TRAINING PROGRAMME
Middle to High School students are eligible for this programme. Classes take place weekly, from March to November, and aim to prepare our students to represent Porto in possible sporting tournaments. Vacancies are filled through the selection system and each student may only participate in one (1) free sports training. If places are available in a sport, the sports area coordinator will consider the possibility of enrolling the student in more than one sport.
+ ESPORTES [Sports Programme]
As part of the ‘For a Better and Happier Life’ programme, which emphasises the crucial role of physical activity in the students’ comprehensive training, +Esportes has offered all Middle School students a free weekly timetable focused on sports since 2022. Porto’s team of Physical Education teachers has developed a special programme of motivational activities, internal sports tournaments and lots of integration between the students.
+ ACADEMIA [Gym Programme]
As part of the ‘For a Better and Happier Life’ programme, +Academia is offered free of charge to High School students. In this programme, Physical Education professionals prepare training sessions and perform follow-ups at all available times.
