PORTO +IDIOMAS ENGLISH

Aware of the leading trends in education worldwide, Porto offers students an immersive English programme designed to develop the skills necessary to acquire an additional language. In later grades, this proposal steps up performance by expediting language mastery and reading skills, which in turn contribute to the development of critical and creative minds in an interdisciplinary way. Students can learn this additional language by integrating content from different areas of knowledge.

PORTO +IDIOMAS GERMAN

Students in the 4th and 5th grades of Elementary School can choose Porto +Idiomas German to expand their experiences with German culture and strengthen their skills in various areas. Project work is at the heart of these classes, allowing students to interact more and play a central role in exploring different topics. In this way, they learn the language by integrating content from different areas of knowledge, based on a diversity of knowledge from the social and cultural context, which contributes to the formation of critical and creative minds.

B-AKTUELL SCHÜLERZEITUNG DES BILINGUALEN CURRICULUMS – INTERNATIONAL CURRICULUM STUDENTS JOURNAL

Lessons include research, writing, image creation, photography and setting the layout of the journal.

CHOR – CHOIR

The choir classes are taught in a fun and inspiring way. Singing alone is a gratifying experience in itself, but sharing it with others is even more rewarding!

KOMM, WIR SPIELEN (COME, LET’S PLAY)

4th and 5th-grade Elementary School students can sign up for the Komm, wir spielen! [‘Come, Let’s Play’] course to expand their experiences with German culture and strengthen their skills in various areas, mainly linguistic and social. The classes aim to expand vocabulary, improve pronunciation and structures of the German language, and culturally develop the students’ repertoire through diverse proposals involving games, plays, workshops, music, and theatrical performances.

MUSIKALISIERUNG: RHYTHMEN UND STIMME (MUSIC LITERACY: RHYTHMS AND VOICE)

The course includes rhythm exercises – using sounds made with the body and instruments – and vocal training to regulate their voices according to the different songs worked on in the group.

SPIE-MI (SPIEL MIT!)

In this group, students can play while speaking German and learn cooperative games to stimulate verbal expression and other skills. In this relaxed atmosphere, students can improve their knowledge of the German language.

THEATRE – THEATRE IN GERMAN

In the theatre group, the students experiment with their bodies and voices and create their own stage play to perform at the end of the year. They are thus able to expand their knowledge of German through play.

YOGA (IN GERMAN)

Yoga brings many benefits to mental and physical health, helping to improve balance, strength and aerobic capacity. Exercise helps to develop motor coordination and body awareness, and to test limits. In this way, yoga helps children in the self-awareness process, strengthening their self-esteem and self-confidence.

SPANISH

The optional Spanish extra course is offered free of charge from the 8th grade of Middle School to the 2nd year of High School. Porto administers exams for the Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE) certification via a partnership established with Instituto Cervantes.

DEUTSCH INTENSIV 2 – INTERNATIONAL CURRICULUM

This course is specially designed to meet the linguistic challenges of the German language in the qualification phase of the Abitur. This course allows students to deepen their knowledge and become more confident in expressing themselves in German, both orally and in writing.

ENGLISH – MIDDLE SCHOOL

This course aims to promote immersion in the English language and improve communication skills through theoretical lessons and practical experience. The proposed work fronts are:

• English language: development of listening, reading, speaking and writing skills.
• Thematic experiences/projects: quarterly thematic modules in which students will deliberately use the additional language to communicate their experiences. The modules include The Lesson Is Yours, Hands-on Activities and Storytelling.

FRENCH – INTERNATIONAL CURRICULUM

The main objective of the course is to enable students to learn a new language within the school environment. In a reality that is already multilingual at heart, learning French can be a pleasant, light and interesting experience. The classes aim to enable students to obtain the DELF/DALF diplomas for proficiency in the French language.

DSD – VORBEREITUNG UND SPRACHVERTIEFUNG

The DSD certification is issued by the German Conference of Ministers of Education and Culture and proves globally recognised proficiency. The integration between regular lessons and the content of this course guarantees excellent performance in exams by developing the students’ productive skills (oral and written).

INTERNATIONAL CURRICULUM MIGRATION COURSE

Adaptation and advancement course for students who have just migrated from the Bilingual to the International Curriculum.
